'm used to the rain. >> reporter: for those looking past thanksgiving already we watched as these two big rigs rolled up carrying 1200 trees. we'll take you to an auto mechanic shop and show you how the rain, wind, this weather and the holiday are kind of jamming up business there. live in san rafel, i'm john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. >> we have significant weather out there in the pacific. take a look, live storm tracker shows you rain but also the massive system. most of the activity is going to fall north of this line. so the cold front lies pretty much right now just north of the bay area proper. up towards santa rosa coming in close. what you'll see is the heavier rain showers. that's the front. it's not moving. this thing is dragging. it's going to be slow. typically a front would roll through the bay area in a few hours. it's not. it's just sitting up there. you can see heavier rain just north up towards the fountain grove area. they're getting heavy rain. we'll head out towards the park area a little further south. you have a little bit of a break there as those showers are sto

last night. ktvu's alex savidge joins us live to explain what caused the victim to go out in the dark. >> reporter: good morning. this man's body was recovered. it's believed he drowned. firefighters say he went out in the rain last night trying to find his lost cat and he ended up falling off this sleep cliff behind his house and he landed in the water. this is a water-filled rock quarry right below his home here. this is next to the rockridge shopping center. the oakland fire department launched a search around 7:00 last night after the man's friend reported him missing. rescuers used a boat. one rescue worker rappelled down the cliff. just before 1:00 this morning, they found the man's body about 30 feet under water. one of the drivers involved in this recovery operation explain how they locate a body in dark, murky water like this. >> we use a circle search where we set an anchor at the bottom and a buoy at the top. we have drivers stationed on the bottom and another diver that circles that anchor searching for our target. >> reporter: so far, authorities are not releasing the ide

[ laughter ] >> reporter: he met us at the castro and wanted to display his thoughts on the matter. >> thank you, joe vazquez. >>> that's bad timing at the dinner hour. as the holiday travel rush heats up the rain is coming down. chief meteorologist paul deanno tracking the storm for us. >> we'll talk more about the commute than we'll talk about "that." we have a lot of rainfall out there on the peninsula. high-def doppler radar. first time lapse mode shows you all the moisture piling in from the pacific. now a little tighter and show you the live radar the actual sweep and where the radar and the rain is as of this second. it's a soggy drive on 101 from santa rosa to novato. north all the way up to cloverdale and healdsburg and we're also wet in napa county. we're wet in san francisco and right across the golden gate bridge sausalito and tiburon now enjoying some rainfall, as well. take a look at the rainfall disparity. our computer predicts 10 times as much rainfall in san rafael than compared to san jose. so farther north the more rain you will receive

of this old quarry about 30 feet below the surface of the water. battalion chief told us the rain may have played a role in this deadly accident. >> it's raining and it's wet back there. so this person may have gone back looking for their cats many times. but today because of the weather, may have lost their footing and fell in the water. >> reporter: the fire department says this man may have fallen as close to 100 feet down into the water. firefighter says they did end up finding a cat on the hillside of this quarry. they believe it belongs to the has been who died here last night. they are not identifying the man who died last night. they are only describing him being in his late 50s or early 60s. live this morning in oakland alex savidge. >>> time now 5:03. roads are still wet. it rained hard and steady all night causing a big mess out there on the roads. several spinouts and fender bender have been reported and a lot of drivers had no choice. they had to drive slower just to keep from losing control. at the airports a real nightmare on one of the busiest travel days of the year. ktvu

. >> ultimately, every step must move us toward a comprehensive peace for all the people of the region. >> reporter: the truce calls for israel to ease restrictions at the gaza border. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu agreed to a cease- fire after president obama called and urged him to give it a chance. earlier wednesday, an explosion tore through a bus in a busy section of tel aviv. emergency crews rushed to the scene to treat the injured. hamas has not claimed responsibility but praised the attack. today the white house called the bus bomb in tel aviv a terrorist attack and reaffirmed the u.s. commitment to israel's security. during the fighting, hamas fired more than 1,000 rockets into israel and israel launched more than 1500 attacks including air strikes killing more than 140 people in gaza. the white house says the president called egypt's president and netanyahu to commend them for working together. under the cease-fire agreement, hamas has agreed not to fire rockets into israel and israel agreed to end its policy of assassinating top militant leaders. danielle notting

morning. thanks for being with us. i'm marla tellez. >> i'm jon kelley. we will have more on the cease-fire agreement coming up in a few moments. first, new out of the south bay. a deadly hit-and-run in east san jose has police at this hour searching for answers. according to police, a man was hit by two vehicles after 6:00 a.m. while crossing alum rock avenue. we have bob redell on the scene this morning. he has more details on what is happening out there. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jon. we spoken with a local neighborhood group who does not think this was a fluke. thinks this latest fatality here at alum rock avenue is a symptom of the problems on the road. they are not surprised a person has been hit and killed. this is the third pedestrian to be hit and killed in east san jose. the ninth person when you take into account the entire city of east san jose. the man, that is all we know, was jay walking after 6:00 this morning while it was still dark out and most likely raining. he was attempting to cross alum rock and was 75 feet away from the nearest crosswalk when
